The SVME offers this Basic Veterinary Medical Ethics Course to guide and encourage discussion and understanding of animal ethics and bioethics. It is intended as a resource for veterinary ethics educators, veterinary students, practicing veterinarians, and paraprofessionals who are involved or interested in animal ethics and welfare. You are welcome to enroll in this class at anytime of the year.
7 Modules take registrants from a basic introduction of veterinary ethics through the various aspects and challenges facing those who work with animals, which are valued diversely in various global environments and within the range of the universal human-animal bond.
After you have registered, look for your confirmation email with course instructions. You will receive each module sequentially as:
1) Basic Ethics and Veterinary Medicine 2) Contemporary Ethical Issues in Veterinary Practice 3) Principles of Veterinary Medical Ethics of the AVMA 4) Animal Welfare 5a) The Human Animal Bond and Ethics 5b) When the Human Animal Bond Goes Wrong 5c) The Ethics of Euthanasia 6) Ethics and Humane Biomedical Research 7) Ethical Discussion on the Eating of Animals.
